ABOUT ME I
Bill & Tani Austin always pull out all the stops for this fabulous fundraiser and awards program. The Red Carpet was jam packed with celebrities both local and international, stage & screen, sports legends, politicians and the list goes on. As a member of the Gala’s Photography Team I nearly had an all access pass! I was stationed, this year, in the VIP lounge where everyone, eventually, would gather to sit & relax before the program, slip off the heels, grab complimentary cocktails and snack on the delicious hors d’oeuvres while mingling and catching up with one another! The VIP area was also the gateway room to the « meet & greet » hall where Tony Bennett & Gladys Knight were hanging out. That room was assigned to my new friend, Greg Jansen who also owns Snapz Photo Booth and had a couple of his booths in place at the house parties at Bill & Tani’s home and at 317 for the after party for all the volunteers…I digress.
I have a ton of photos to pour over and when I’m able I’ll let you know via this blog and direct you to my galleries page to see more. In the meantime, here are a few shots I captured of the entertainers that performed at this years Starkey Gala for So The World May Hear.
This is Mr. Ethan Bortnick
Starkey Gala’s headliner for 2009 ~ Sir. Elton John
Last night I got together with all of the photographers that are shooting this year’s Starkey Gala for So The World May Hear at the, newly remodeled, Minnetonka Marriott. A fabulous group of professionals has been assembled yet again. I can’t believe it’s been a year since we all worked together for this event. Last year I was fortunate enough to be given the role of Bill & Tani Austin’s photographer on the Red Carpet! I photographed everyone as they arrived and grabbed shots of each of them with Bill & Tani. It was pretty incredible and a HUGE honor! This year I have been assigned something that is mighty exciting as well…the Green Room. This will be where most of the Celebrities will hang out prior to the Ballroom opening. Sir Elton John is the main performer this year along with Gladys Night, Billy Crystal and Tony Bennett! Garth Brooks was the main performer last year as well as Pat Benatar. Here’s some shots from last year.
I’m really excited to shoot this year. I’m going to miss both house parties, the Golf outing, the Bass Tournament and the Missions at the Center for Excellence leading up to the Gala due to 2 weddings but I will be at the Gala on Sunday and the energy there is amazing!
WOW! First of all, we get there and we are sitting at a table right in front of the stage. Second, we had dinner there (and the food was outSTANDING!). Third, to my surprise, they allowed photography…no flash. duh. Didn’t know we’d be able to but brought our cameras along anyway, just in case. I debated…do I bring the 50 1.4 or the 85 1.8? I brought the 85. Tonight, as Sandi purchased tickets for both shows back in April, I will bring the 50. Tonight, our seats are to Rosanne’s left think a little wider might be nice.
(all shot with a Canon 1D Mark 3 and the 85 1.8)
Here’s what the Star Tribune had to say about last night’s performance.
This really is a terrific place to see an artist up close and personal. I will watch for future gigs and hit the Dakota more often!
Thanks, Sandi, for recommending it and coming to Minneapolis to share it with me (all the way from DC!).
Seems you never really know what’s in your own back yard until someone comes from out of town to enlighten you! 🙂 Sandi loves Rosanne Cash and now…so do I! Watch for her new CD, »The List », to drop October 6th. I know I’m looking forward to it!
Today my niece, Emily, turns 12!
Sunday, she and I got together to do our annual thing
of hair and a fashion/photo shoot. I look forward to
this every year for every birthday for all the kids!
Now, in that most 12 year old girls don’t get their hair
colored, let’s keep in mind that this is what I do and
of course a little color is fun, right? So I get to spend some
quality time with my nieces and nephews, and then photograph
them in a way that most parents wouldn’t ordinarily think of.
I mean, what’s an Aunt to do when armed with the tools!
If you are interested in giving this sort of gift to someone you
know and love, please contact me for a personalized quote.
Let’s leave the school photos in the year books and on the fridge!
It’s time to create some timeless images of your children.
This is not your mother’s glamour shots! 😉
And as always, I keep each session age appropriate.
Happy Birthday Emily! I love you.
I had the distinct honor of not only attending Kathryn’s
1st Communion but photographing her that day as well.
Rather than putting a slide show together, I’ve decided
that the images would be best viewed individually.
Kathryn is a complete natural beauty, loves the camera
and, luckily, loves me too. Oh, and also pictured is their
new puppy Sam. Sam is a Cavalier King Charles/Bichon mix.
Today is a very special day.
My little friend, Kathryn, is being confirmed.
I’ve known Kathryn since before she was born!
She calls me « aunt sue » and I love it!
I’ve photographed her at every birthday and even
a party and dance here and there. 🙂
I will head over to Jim & Gerri’s home around
2:45 to photograph this lovely girl in her
gorgeous confirmation gown. It’ll be like
photographing a teeny, tiny bride, I can’t wait!
Sun is out, should be 60+ today. YAY!
